One of the joys in illustrating children's books and books for teens is that it allows the artist to enter the world of children and adolescents.
Benjamin is always working on a book project. His wife is a translator so they also have joint projects where they can combine their efforts. Most books go through a process of interpreting the literature and breaking it down through out a series of images to tell a story.
First we provide the client or Art Director a pencil break down of the story. Some sketches are provided to show the developed characters and how they will look at different stages of the story. Once the layout and rough sketches are approved we go to finish. Typically a client will want to see the color palette being used in the illustrations. The color may be needed tos et the mood or environment of the story. The cover art is drawn first to set the direction of all the forth coming drawings. The cover is also used to start the marketing. Continuity of characters are important. The client is generally brought in to review the drawings before finished.
The art is created in digital or traditional mediums. Scheduling is important. If you wish to have a book illustrated please contact Ben Vincent to check availability.
